PGL MAY 2018
Thursday 17th May
Our final full day has been truly superb. We have had much nicer weather than yesterday, and so after applying our sunscreen we were off for our breakfast of bacon, eggs and beans. Quad biking, fencing, trapeze and giant swing were the tasks of the morning. Although some of us were nervous, we really pushed ourselves and showed excellent resilience and reciprocity- helping and encouraging one another.
Once we had been to the shop for the final time and had our lunch of making our own sandwiches, we were kitted up for the highlight of the day - raft building! At Lake Clive, we engineered our barrels and logs to build our rafts. After some testing on the lake, it became apparent that some rafts were more successful than others!
Dinner was wolfed down quickly so we had plenty of time to prepare for the disco. Hair gel and best outfits at the ready! With a quick group photo, we were off to dance the night away.
We have one final morning of tasks tomorrow, and we will sleep tonight! Another great day here at PGL Boreatton Park. See you all soon!
Wednesday 16th May
Another fun packed day today, beginning with an early start. After blinking the sleep out of our eyes during our breakfast of sausages and beans, as well as the normal selection of cereals, it was straight back to the rooms to pick up our bags of dry clothing. Once we had dressed in the waterproofs and buoyancy aids provided, it was straight off for the kayaking session all morning. With the clouds in the sky, it was the perfect weather for water sports. With the safety talk still in our heads it was straight into the water (without any capsizing) for a time of learning to paddle and playing kayak games. Some of us even braved a splash around in the lake at the end!
Once we were showered again and into warm clothes, we had our lunch of fish finger butties. With the weather getting better all afternoon, we had the chance to play aeroball and complete an obstacle ‘challenge’ course. We have visited the shop and bought our gifts and souvenirs.
This evening’s entertainment was Wackey Races - a real treat and another chance to burn off our dinner.
We have said our prayers and are off to bed. What another fantastic day!
Tuesday 15th May
With our bellies full of bacon, spaghetti hoops and all the toast and tea we could eat, we were off on a busy fun-filled day. Beginning with climbing Jacob's Ladder, we were figuring out how to communicate and help each other reach the top bar. Then moving on to 'Survivor', where we were thrown into a mysterious land and had to work out how to survive and find shelter, heat and water.
Thankfully, we all made it through the activity and were 'rescued' in time for a delicious jacket potato lunch which was wolfed down! This afternoon we went into our groups to have a wonderful time on our final two activities of archery and going on the zip wires! We all managed to build up the courage to launch ourselves into the air - even Mr McCarthy!
After a filling dinner of chicken nuggets and chips (almost as good as McDonalds) and with the surprise visit from Mr Foxon and Mrs Wright, off we went to the campfire. After a few songs, Mrs Wright and Mr Foxon guided us all in the most special prayer service. Surrounded by the tall trees, lake and listening to the birds singing, the children led our evening prayers. Having foraged for sticks, twigs and pine cones, we fashioned the word 'grateful' in the clearing. Together, we shared with one another what we are grateful for and reflected on the beauty of God's world.
Tomorrow is another busy day, keep tuned for more news.
Monday 14th May
After a lovely journey without any traffic (but a fair bit of singing), we had a brief tour of the PGL grounds. The children managed to get excited about every single bit of the coming week, including asking about what the menu for the week would be. The tour then ended with a wonderful dinner of curry, steak pie or sausages.
After time to settle into their new homes for the week and negotiate bunks and cupboard space, we then had an impromptu football session with games played outside our cabins. The sun through the trees provided a beautiful backdrop, we are grateful for such a fabulous start to the week.
PGL Sports Night is the entertainment for this evening- a great chance to show our sporting skills and reciprocity.
