Letter to the children from Mrs Wright 2nd April 2020

2 April 2020 (by admin)

Dear Children,

Well, we are nearly at the end of another week! I can’t believe where the time is going.

This picture is from my favourite book at the moment called The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy. It’s a wonderful book about friendship and sticking together when things get tough. Let’s all hold on together at the moment.

I hope that you and your families are all well and that you have been able to play outside and enjoy some of the sunshine. From this Friday, it is the Easter holidays and your teachers will not be sending any work home or putting any work up on the website. Hooray you might be saying!

However, I am going to set you some challenges and things that I would really like you do.

Faith We live it, Love it And Learn it.

Sunday marks the start of Holy Week with Palm Sunday. Mass will be said at St George and St Teresa at 10:30am. Ask your family of you can join in with Mass via the webcam. Think about Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. I have included a picture of an Easter wreath that I made last year. It would be good if you could all make one – it will take you through Holy Week to Easter Sunday when Jesus rose from the dead and up to Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came to the Apostles. You could use the sheets that I have attached, or even better – draw your own pictures. Use some card from a cereal box to make the circle – be creative! Send me some photos of what you have made. Maybe you could make an Easter garden?

I want you to think of this time at home not as a sad time or a time to worry but I want you to call it your special time at home. When you are older, I want you to be able to look back at this Easter holiday time and remember all the things that you had the time to do and learn. See how many of these you can tick off the list!

 Make your own bed  Make your own breakfast  Bake a cake or some biscuits – can you give them an unusual decoration?  Name as many birds as you can in your garden – keep a log of all the wildlife that you can find – can you classify it?  Weed the garden – can you look up which are the weeds and which are the plants?  If you have some, grow some seeds  Read alone for a good chunk of time. Time yourself – how long can you really concentrate for?  Write letters! Older people LOVE letters! Why don’t you write to your grandparents or if you know of any old people’s homes locally that you can send a letter of hope to. Draw them a lovely picture of the spring and a rainbow.  Make a den – especially in the garden - how many people can you get in it?  Enjoy some cuddles and quiet time on the settee with your family and watch some really good films – have you seen Toy Story 4? I loved it! What’s your favourite film?  What’s the biggest Lego tower you can build? What’s the biggest jigsaw that you can do?  Finally – write a prayer of Hope – here is a story to help you:

Jesus encourages us to pray when he says, “Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Lk 11:9) He goes on to show that this is true by performing various miracles for people who ask him to do so, curing a leper and a blind beggar who come before Him in good faith, and promising the Kingdom of Heaven to the good thief who repents at Calvary.

We would like to ask all families to come together and help us to create our own book of HOPE. Compose your prayer and decorate carefully, remember to put your name on this too. We are going to ask all staff and Father Rob to make their own personal contribution as well. When we are back in school we will try to collate, print and maybe even publish these. We anticipate that this will make us all realise that we certainly need to have hope in our lives. Please share the importance and power of prayer.

Four Candles burned slowly. Their ambiance was so soft you could hear them speak.

The first candle said, "I am Peace but these days, nobody wants to keep me lit." Then the flame of Peace slowly diminished and went out completely.

The second candle said, "I am Faith but these days, I am no longer indispensable." Then the flame of Faith slowly diminished and went out completely.

Sadly the third candle spoke, "I am love and I haven't the strength to stay lit any longer. People put me aside and don't understand my importance. They even forget to love those nearest to them." And waiting no longer, love went out completely.

Suddenly, a child entered the room and saw the three candles no longer burning. The child began to cry. "Why are you not burning?" You are supposed to stay lit until the end.

Then the fourth candle spoke gently to the child. "Don't be afraid, for I am Hope and while I still burn, we can relight the other candles." With shining eyes, the child took the candle of Hope and lit the other three candles.

Never let the flame of Hope go out. With Hope in your life, no matter how bad things may be, Peace, Faith, and Love may shine brightly once again.

Have a wonderful Easter and enjoy this special time.

God bless you all,
