Dunfield House April 2018

Monday 30th April

We woke up to a dry but cold morning to wish Lucas a very Happy 7th Birthday.

It was a late late night last night with all rooms quiet by 12.30am!

They were all awake nice and early and were excited to start the day. They had a good run around on the terrace before sitting down to breakfast at 8.30 :
Breakfast menu :
Cereal
Fruit
Yoghurt
Cooked breakfast - bacon, hash browns and baked beans
Toast

After breakfast the children experienced their first music session as a whole group, learning different playground songs.  They then had a playtime - exploring the woods, adventure play area, football and paddling in the stream.
After this the children were then split into 2 groups -learning rhythms on the African drums and learning to play the ukulele.

Then it was time for lunch.  Lunch menu:
Fish fingers, mashed potato and mixed vegetables
Dessert : jam sponge and custard, yoghurt, fruit

We then swapped over music groups and then it was time for cross curricular activities :
All the children have been swimming, completed some artwork on the landscape using watercolours and had free time around the grounds.

We then had tea.  On the menu tonight was :
Cheese and tomato pizza, chips, salad and coleslaw
Dessert : Bannoffee pie, yoghurt and fruit

After tea we went on a walk out of the grounds of Dunfield and up a hill to look out on Wales.  On our way back we had another little walk through the stream and went into the Garden of Reflection.  We made a cross using the cut up logs and the children shared their school prayers with each other.

It was then off to the fire to sing songs round the campfire and toast marshmallows.  The children were then keen to get into their pyjamas and have hot chocolate.  A lovely surprise was a birthday cake for Lucas.  We sang Happy Birthday and then the cake was cut up for everyone to enjoy.

All quiet by 10pm!!

Sunday 29th April

We had a good trip here and arrived safely just before 4.45pm.  The children helped to unload the coach and then got to see their rooms before tea.
They all ate a really good tea with lovely manners from everyone.
On the menu for tea was :
Jacket potato with beans, salad, coleslaw and cheese
Dessert : chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream
Many children also chose to have a yoghurt / piece of fruit as well!!

Then it was off to the bedrooms to make the beds - a big thank you to everyone who has helped their children practise, they were superstars at this!  We then met Paul the manager of Dunfield and had a fire practise.  The children were then given further time to unpack.

As I am writing this email (20.50) the children have been on a walk to explore all the grounds and are having a wonderful time playing football, games and exploring the adventure play area.

The hot chocolate is warming and flapjack has been made ready for them to come in and get into their pyjamas.
